Although the changes we are seeing are not a complete metamorphosis, as in previous versions, iOS 16 introduces a large number of improvements and additions. It allows for an even better adjustment of an iPhone to a user, e.g. through widgets and a renewed iOS 16 lock screen.
It all started in a garage
Apple Computers, Inc. was founded on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. They wanted to change the way people perceive computers. Their main goal was to make a relatively small device so that people were able to have it in their homes and offices. Their aim was to make the computer user-friendly.
Construction of the Apple I began in Jobs’ garage. Initially, computers were sold without a monitor, keyboard or even a casing; they were added in 1977. It didn’t take long for the first big success. Apple II revolutionized the market by introducing the first color graphics in history.
The streak did not last long. In 1983, Wozniak left Apple, and Jobs hired John Sculley from PepsiCo. However, this move did not improve sales – quite the opposite. Finally, in 1985, Jobs himself left the company to take on larger projects. He founded his own business, NeXT Software, and also bought Pixar which later became a huge success. For the remainder of the 1980s, Apple continued to prosper with its highest profit to date in 1990. That merit can be attributed to the plans Jobs implemented before his leave.
In the years that followed, Apple’s profits fell, and in 1996, experts believed the company would collapse. In 1997, Apple absolutely needed the operating system and bought Jobs’ company – NeXT Software, then turned to him for help. Jobs became the iCEO, as he used to call himself. Subsequently, he forged an alliance with Microsoft and created a version of office software for Mac computers. Jobs completely modernized computers and introduced the iBook – the personal flashlight, then iPod – mp3 player which became the most desirable device on the market.
However, we waited for the world’s most successful product until 2007, when Apple released a touchscreen mobile phone. Let’s not forget about the iPads and Apple Watches which also enjoyed considerable popularity. In this way, Apple became the market leader and began to inquire about new trends.
What users liked the most about iPhones is their unquestionable durability and easy to use interface. With an iPhone and a MacBook, it feels like having one hardware, thanks to automatic synchronization. This is a very convenient option that users appreciate.
What's new after the release of iOS 16?
While waiting for the official premiere of iOS 16, we all expected great changes. But is it still possible to revolutionize the market? Let’s see what Apple has proposed this year and how it affects the user. What features they like and what are considered to be futile.
Lock Screen customization
Customizing the lock screen is one of the main features that users are talking about. Visually, it makes the biggest changes. From iOS 16, the user can create multiple lock screens and customize each one to his preferences. It can change the focus mode, font, filter, widgets. What’s interesting, the lock screen may change as the screen Focus Mode changes.
The development of widgets introduced by Apple is still ongoing. Currently, the user can select the favorite application widget and set it on the lock screen which works just like the home screen widgets. It promises to be more and more available soon!
By introducing new lock screen capabilities and widget customization, iOS 16 adapts the iPhone to the user’s personality. Customizing the font, widget, photo, mode and lock screen selection allows the user to fully personalize their iPhone.
New lock screen widgets are another way to tailor your iPhone to your personality.
iMessage new features
Apple users have waited a long time for these new features in iMessage, which were introduced earlier in competing applications. Starting from iOS 16, the user can: undo sending a message up to 2 minutes after sending it. The content of the message will not be displayed, but the notification that the message has been sent will be left.
Another change is the ability to edit messages in iMessage. Each of these changes will be visible for both the sender and the recipient. The user can change the message up to 5 times.
Other new features in iMessage that are interesting for users are: mark as unread, recover recently deleted messages, sharePlay via Messages, SMS Tapbacks on Android, audio message playback: fast-forward or rewind audio messages as you listen.
Focus modes
There is no end to personalization in iOS 16. Another feature that is already known from iOS 15 is Focus Mode. In the new edition it has been improved and improved to be even more user-friendly. Apple has streamlined the configuration process to make it even easier to allow and block notifications from specific apps and contacts.
Now the user can separate notifications that he wants to receive, e.g. after work, and which contacts are to be blocked. Focus Mode can also be combined with lock screens and home screens, thanks to which by automatically selecting the screen, the user automatically chooses what notifications he wants to receive.
Do not forget about privacy and security in iOS 16
Security and privacy are one of the hallmarks of Apple. In the new iOS 16, the user can manage security controls. This feature is available in Settings.
How is it working? Apple says “If circumstances or trust levels change, Safety Check allows you to disconnect from people, apps, and devices you no longer want to be connected to”. This allows you to instantly reset access for all selected people and applications. It also helps protect against account tracking. This new feature can define which people and what applications can access user information.
The Photos app
Many users are waiting not only for the functionalities that change the interface, but for what’s new in The Photos application.
From now on, iOS 16 introduces the ability to identify all duplicate photos so that the user can clean the library easily. Access to the Hidden and Recently Deleted albums is now only possible with your iPhone password or Face ID.
The Photos application now allows you to copy the change implemented in one photo and paste it into another photo or batch of photos. This works in the same way with undoing the settings.
Not only iPhones have new features
In this year’s WWDC, Apple has fortunately not forgotten about presenting new features for CarPlay. Some of the changes are already introduced, others will not take place until the future.
An all-new CarPlay experience
Automotive and tech freaks are excited about the new CarPlay that Apple has unveiled. CarPlay will be available on every screen in the car. Currently, CarPlay only works in the primary center console display and navigation guidance in the middle of the instrument cluster.
Just like in iPhones, CarPlay will allow the user to fully customize and personalize the view. There are fonts, themes, colors, and layouts disponible to choose. All this still retains the required information such as speed, range, fuel level, RPM and more.
Is it all iOS 16 gives to users?
It is not the end of new functionalities in iOS. Apple gave to user many more such as:
Live Activities – functionality that allows mini applications that react in real time to changes in data such as score in a match, car wash status, repairs or anything that changes quite quickly.
Apple Wallet – Keys in Apple Wallet and Apple work with organizations to virtually handover keys outside of just the Apple platform.
Spotlight – Spotlight on the iPhone is even smarter and more accessible.
IPad – windows on iPad apps may become more useful and popular, maybe this is some new direction in making apps. And in addition, users also get the option of fully-fledged connection of screens to the iPad.
Definitely it is not the end. iOS 16 has many more new features about which you can write a lot, so I encourage you to listen to the podcast on this topic.
